What to sow in an unheated greenhouse in early spring

Your own greenhouse at the summer cottage is a great opportunity to grow a crop of fresh greenery, even if the structure is not heated. There are cultures that grow rapidly and tolerate cold weather normally.

Radish

This vegetable grows very quickly and requires minimal maintenance when grown. In an unheated greenhouse, radishes are sown in March. Then the first crop will be fully ripe by the beginning of May.To obtain rich seedlings, greenhouse beds are covered with snow, and seeds are scattered on top. Early ripe varieties with large seeds should be sown, they do not shoot. Since radish is a light-loving culture, the most illuminated area of the greenhouse is chosen for it. To ensure that a tasty and healthy vegetable is constantly on the table, sowing is carried out at intervals of 2-3 weeks.

Parsley

These fragrant greens tolerate cold well, so they can be planted not only in early spring, but also in autumn. So that when grown in an unheated greenhouse, seedlings appear faster, the seeds are pre-soaked and germinated. The crop prefers loose soil, but undemanding to light, so it can be planted in any part of the greenhouse. Seeds are sown in grooves no more than 3 cm deep. Water the parsley sparingly, since excessive watering leads to a decrease in yield, and a poor one leads to a deterioration in the quality of greenery.

Dill

Dill is another unpretentious crop. It is often self-sown outdoors, and fresh greens remain crisp and aromatic until the first frost. In an unheated greenhouse, dill seeds are sown in April. A small bed is set aside for dill and sowing is repeated every 2-3 weeks so that the crop ripens gradually. Ripe greens are not cut off, but pulled out by the roots. Later, the vacated bed is used to grow other vegetables.

Bow on feather

The cultivation of green onions is practiced not only in the open field, but also in greenhouses without heating and even at home on the windowsill. This crop is not afraid of cold weather, grows successfully on any soil and is practically insensitive to the lighting regime. When grown in a greenhouse, there are no clear restrictions on planting dates. The bulbs can be planted as early as March. But it should be borne in mind that the growth rate of the feather directly depends on the temperature regime. At rates from +10 to +20 degrees, the greens will ripen in about 25 days. If the temperature drops below, then the crop will be ready for use in a month and a half.

Various salads

There are many types of lettuce: cabbage, leafy, half-cabbage and asparagus. The most unpretentious and early ripening are leafy varieties. Their seeds germinate already at +5 degrees, and the harvest begins a month after sowing. Salad crops require intense lighting. Otherwise, the plants stretch out and the greens become less crispy. In addition to the leafy varieties, watercress is successfully grown in greenhouses. It is a cold-hardy herb with a spicy flavor that reaches maturity 2-3 weeks after planting.

Early April - flowers

An unheated greenhouse is used not only for growing vegetables and herbs. Ornamental plants are successfully cultivated in it. In April, the temperature indicators gradually stabilize, so asters, marigolds and zinnias begin to grow indoors. If the first two varieties are grown as an ornamental annual, then zinnia is cultivated with seedlings. Therefore, after planting it in the greenhouse, you will first have to wait for the shoots, then dive the seedlings into separate containers, and later transplant them into the open ground. fresh vitamin greens appeared, and beautiful flowers on the site.

We continue our sowing work. We plant the beds one by one, choosing the right time and conditions for growing a particular crop. And now it's time to sow the salad. When is the time to plant it? What conditions are needed? What results will the cultivation of seedlings give? I will try to answer all these questions. And I'll tell you a little more about varieties and planting crops for the winter.

But I want to start with motivation! We are used to seeing only an attractive look in this plant. Indeed, green leaves adorn the dish. But the main advantage of the plant is its health benefits. Landing in 2021 lunar calendar (by months)

First, consider when to start sowing tomatoes:

  1. January. At this time, you can start sowing only with the prospect of further cultivation in greenhouse conditions and with heating.
  2. February. According to gardeners, this period will be more comfortable. But at the same time, haste is highly undesirable. Due to the lack of warmth and natural light, the shoots will stretch out and will grow frail. In addition, they can be attacked by fungal microorganisms.
  3. March. As you know, at the beginning of spring, nature awakens, the length of daylight hours increases. Therefore, March is best suited for germination.
  4. April. If the soil has warmed up enough, then in the last decade you can sow seeds in a greenhouse or under a film cover. Bushes planted directly in open soil and grown without transplanting seedlings to another place will begin to bear fruit about two weeks earlier than those grown on windowsills.

In turn, the sowing of pepper for seedlings begins from January to April. If you look at the lunar calendar, then you should focus on the growing moon. Farmers claim that this will have a beneficial effect on the growing bushes, as well as the development of the pods. In addition, they choose the days when the heavenly body will be in those zodiacal constellations that promise fertility for a given culture. This year, in some months, the favorable time falls on 2-3 decades.

What if there is no opportunity to engage in sowing work during this period? Good results can be achieved by sowing when the moon is waning. Specific dates are listed below.

In the second half of March, we sow and plant

Vegetable and green crops:

If necessary, the beds in an unheated greenhouse can be additionally insulated with covering films, which will allow to "open the season" even earlier.

Cutting dahlias in March

If you want to get a larger amount of dahlia planting material, we plant dahlia tubers for grafting. For this, a spacious box with a height of 20-30 cm, filled with soil mixture, is suitable. Dahlia tubers are planted with a distance of 10-15 cm from each other, they are not buried, only sprinkled with earth a little. The green sprouts that appear are neatly broken off, 2 lower leaves are removed from the cuttings and cuttings are cut like ordinary crops: they are powdered with root, planted in a pot with the prepared mixture and covered with a glass cap or film.

Requirements

A rather serious issue of growing vegetables and fruits in winter in greenhouses. In order to build a structure that will function all year round, you need to know how to equip a greenhouse for growing vegetables in winter. Aspects that should be taken into account, experts attribute the optimal temperature level, optimal humidity, the level of ventilation in the room and the amount of sun.

Any greenhouse for year-round growing of vegetables must have a sufficiently strong foundation.... The deepening into the soil for the plant is determined by the requirement of the plant itself. When choosing a roof structure, it is best to opt for shed ones. The side from the north must be laid with a cinder block, this approach will protect your seedlings from the cold climate on the other side.

The greenhouse for the whole year should include the so-called vestibule and, of course, doors... It is also important to use vents so that you can ventilate. If we are talking about large greenhouses, then it is necessary to use a welding frame and apply an anti-corrosion coating. It is such a base for a greenhouse that is designed for many years of operation. Its main difference is strength and reliability.

To select a coating, standard polyethylene is always used, less often industrial glass... But nevertheless, experts recognized the so-called cellular polycarbonate as the optimal material. With it, you can easily let light into the greenhouse itself from the street, it perfectly retains heat in the room even during the period of high frosts.

When choosing a heating, you do not need to think too long. An electric boiler would be an excellent option. But recently, many experts are beginning to use well-known wood-burning stoves. In this case, both fuel and money are saved.

Growing from Seed Video

Growing onions for greens today is also possible in a seedling way. The best varieties for this are called semi-sharp and sweet varieties of vegetables, as well as an excellent variety Skvirsky.

Immediately before you start growing onions for greenery from seedlings, the seeds should be wetted or germinated in a film greenhouse. During germination, the seeds must be planted to a depth of about 1 cm about 60 days before planting the seedlings in the ground.

In this case, a row type of sowing is used, in which the width in the row spacing should be up to 6 cm. The rate of sowing seeds is about 25 grams per square meter of usable area. The temperature inside the greenhouse before germination should be up to +25 degrees. When they hatch, the temperature must be reduced after 4 days by 10 degrees, and later again increased to 18 - 20. The greenhouse must be ventilated, and the seedlings must be thoroughly watered. 10 days before planting it in the open ground, the greenhouse is opened.

High-quality seedlings, ready for planting, reach a height of 15 to 20 cm and have about 4 leaves. In order for it to better adapt to the new place and give a good feather, the leaves need to be cut off by about a third on the day of planting. The root system is advised to be dipped in a solution prepared from mullein and clay. Seedlings are planted on the site in the second half of April in the grooves, which are made previously using a hoe or a marker.

Planting is done in rows, the row spacing in which should be about 20 cm, and the distance between the crops themselves - up to 5 cm. The dry soil should be watered so that 40 plants have about 10 liters of water. Planting seedlings should be carried out to a depth of 4 cm. The soil around the planted plants should be pressed to the roots, and the aisles after planting should be immediately loosened.
